Returning Home to Discover Spring

After a long road trip, I came home just before sunset to see that spring had arrived while I was gone. The air was full of wonderful smells but there was a lot that was new to my eye. The star magnolia (magnolia stellata) was in bloom:

The asparagus were rising and ready to be picked. I snapped one off to eat raw.

The blossoms on the white peach tree were the brightest of all.

I also checked out the lambs, who were wary of me. They are thriving but soon their tails need to be docked and other important parts removed.

Finally the flowering quince, a shrub in the fence line, was a soft, beautiful red.

“Gee but it’s great to be back home…”
