A great surprise today! In fact, two.
After a late breakfast, I was taking the compost bucket out to the chickens when I looked out in the field. In with the sheep, I saw a black shape. At first, I thought I saw a cat. Then I realized I saw a black lamb. Then I saw another nearby along the fence. I ran and grabbed everyone.
We ran out to the field. My guess is that both lambs were just born. The afterbirth was on the ground nearby. The birth must have come during a short break in the weather. We’ve had almost five inches of rain over the weekend.
We moved the lambs to a shed with their mother. The white ram was surprisingly attentive. Both lambs are male. One is clearly smaller than the other. The larger one has a white tip on his tail.
