Bleating Lamb

The lambs, which Glenda named Biscuit and Quiche because that’s what we had for breakfast just before they were born, are now a month old. They are out in a bigger pasture. Last Monday, one of the lambs managed to get out of its pasture and join the other sheep. Nancy said she had heard it bleating. Glenda and I went out in the dark, not knowing what the problem was, and found that the lamb was separated from its mother. It was unhappy. Glenda chased him down, which took some work to get him in a corner where she could pick him up and we put the lamb back with its mother.

Bleat is an Old English word, probably imitative of the sound of sheep’s cry.
