Maker Movement

Eric Siegel of NYSCI asked for a definition of the maker movement.
Here’s a first version:

All of us are makers.

The Maker movement seeks to inspire, inform, and connect Makers and
aspiring Makers of all ages and backgrounds through the public
gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, artists,
tinkerers, hobbyists, clubs, students, and others involved in creative
and technical communities.  Makers possess a DIY mindset, which can be
a powerful and positive force for building community as well as
fostering innovation and developing a diverse, creative culture.   The
movement includes the development of physical spaces for making, the
social environment that supports making in a community and it is
connected to online environments that provide the opportunity to share
information and the creative projects that are generated by the
community.
