The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency will conduct a briefing to the potential proposer community for a planned Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for the vehicleforge.mil effort. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVE: The principal objective of the
vehicleforge.mil effort is to generate an open source development collaboration
environment and website for the creation of large, complex, cyber-electro-mechanical
systems by numerous unaffiliated designers. The initial phase of the program will last 12
months and culminate in the operational deployment of vehicleforge.mil.
vehicleforge.mil is part of a portfolio of DARPA efforts that aims, among other
objectives, to democratize the design process for complex cyber-electro-mechanical
systems such as defense and aerospace vehicles. The goal is to enable large numbers of
unaffiliated developers to participate in the design of militarily-relevant systems such as
ground vehicles, airplanes, rotorcraft, and space systems. To that end, DARPA
anticipates soliciting proposals for the development and operation of vehicleforge.mil, an
open source hosting site—loosely analogous in concept to other “forge” sites such as
sourceforge.net, forge.mil, etc.—for the collaborative development of these systems.
